Auto Paint Repair

Auto Paint Repair

Is Auto Paint Repair Expensive?

The paint on your car is not just there for looks. It serves a purpose. Paint is like your car’s skin in that it keeps the elements away from the more sensitive aspects of the machine.

Unresolved paint issues can fester like an untreated wound. Left untreated, the result can be an auto body panel (or several!) which are rusted out and completely destroyed.

Believe it or not, there are actually a lot of options when it comes to paint repair, which means that you can choose a price point that makes you comfortable. As long as you go into the shop knowing what you want, you can ensure that you get your car gets back at a price you can afford.

Before you start calling around for quotes, you need to determine what kind of paint job you’re looking for. This will give you a target price range and make it easy for you to pick a shop.

Remember, when painting a car, or having your vehicle’s paint repaired, there are many variables which affect the cost of the job. The most important variable is the kind of paint that is being repaired. Metallic paints require the most effort, particularly light metallic colors like silver. Next you must consider how much of the car must be painted.

Size matters; painting a quarter panel could cost $100, while painting the whole hood could cost up to $1000. Your next consideration is the type of paint and clear coat to be used. Generally, urethane paint lasts longer than enamel paint, and the more robust the clear coat, the longer the paint job will last.

Your final consideration should be the amount of vehicle prep the shop is going to do before painting. A new paint job does not cover auto body damage, it magnifies it. Make sure you know exactly what steps the shop will take to prepare your car for painting.

Minor Damage Car Paint Repair

Minor car paint repair is the least expensive because it takes the least amount of time. Often the painter will not even need to remove body panels from the car. This should cost between $150 and $1000.

Economy Full Car

If you need full car auto paint repair but are on a tight budget, your best option is to go with an economy paint repair job available at your local collision repair shop. This is usually one coat of enamel paint with no clear coat. It will not include the unseen parts of the car like inside the trunk or under the hood. This should cost between $250 and $400.

Full Car Total Paint Repair

This will involve consultation with a trained auto paint professional. They’ll use a high quality paint and a protective top coat. This type of auto paint repair job will involve careful preparation of the car’s body to ensure a smooth result. This level of auto paint repair costs between $1000 and $5000, depending on the level of customization, body damage, and number of hours required to achieve the desired result.
